Based on theoretical research and distinctive case studies, this publication traces the interrelation between the curator (or ‘author’ of an exhibition), institutions and exhibition practices, focusing on screen-based works in physical space (excluding online and virtual spaces) and within an arts context (excluding other commercial or promotional uses of the screen). The field of the ‘curatorial gesture’ in relation to what preceded it (‘traditional’ curating, consisting of the selection and presentation of artworks within an exhibition space) is foregrounded, in order to then move into an exploration of paradigm shifts and changing relationships between exhibitions and their respective audiences
